Parenting & Loving Your LGBTQ Child

A growing number of Christian parents are experiencing their children “coming out to them” as they identify with an LGBTQ identity in some way. Most parents feel alone or even isolated as they form a response and seek to love their children as Jesus does while also anchoring in biblical truth. Many are new to the language of LGBTQ and can feel lost and without a safe place to process this. The church may even feel particularly unsafe depending on the perception of stances and church experiences.

The truth is, if this describes your reality, you are not alone. We know several parents who are walking this journey with their kids from Jr High (even elementary ages) to Adults children. And we would like to create a safe space for parents to dialogue with each other and learn how to love their kids in the midst of their identity formation while they also wrestle with their own questions and personal reactions that inevitably surface.

Opportunity Details:

This group will NOT be a therapy group even though naming emotions, sharing experiences, and transparency will be part of the dialogue. Our goal is NOT to debate the various perspectives that parents will likely bring to such a group, but instead to maintain a gospel centered, loving response and dialogue with our kids, ourselves, and each other.

In order to create a confidential environment, this will be a closed group that will meet weekly for 11 weeks on Sundays at the Normal Campus. at 10:30am. Participants will need to commit to meeting together the majority of the time to participate.
